"The Smoothie" - By Me =)
Usually, I make smoothies for breakfast. They are a phenomenal quick on-the-go breakfast or snack. I tend to use a few staples in my smoothies when using them as a meal replacer: almond or coconut milk, hemp protein, bananas, and kale. I find this combo + other sweet faves keeps me fuller longer. The downside? I don't always want a meal in a glass...sometimes I just want to sip on some sweet sunshine and feel light and energized when I'm done.
Enter, today's creation, presented in black and white for dramatic effect (insert evil Dr. Frankenstein laugh here). This smoothie is light, nut-milk and protein powder free, yet carries a serious nutritional punch. My favorite thing about this smoothie is how hydrating it is (coconut water and cucumbers) and how the healthy greens are totally hidden by the sweet summer fruit...wait that's two things isn't it? Oops. My point is, it rocks!
So I had some "artistic fun" shooting this smoothie today (see header image, black and white portrait, and blueberry "art" ha). Please note I use the term "artistic" lightly when referring to my own photography skills and this post in general...as is evidenced here by my super professional photoshoot set up...yes, that's a mason jar of granola bars and two pieces of copy paper....does the term "ballin on a budget" ring any bells?? Hmm...at least I get to show off that I haven't killed my basil plant yet! =)
The lighting was being a bit uncooperative (no, no, it was NOT operator error...did I mention I have no idea how my camera works?? I digress...), I dealt with some runaway blueberries (slippery little frozen suckers!), and ended up looking like the blueberries won...if I have not warned you before, I warn you now: frozen blueberries stain like something fierce! There, due diligence to warn done :)
End of Summer Tropical Blast Smoothie (Nut Milk Free)
*Makes two 12-14oz smoothies...best when cucumbers, coconut water, and spinach are chilled in the fridge!

1/2 avocado flesh
1 cup baby spinach (packed into measuring cup)
1/2 cucumber, peeled and cut into chunks (I chill mine in the fridge for smoothies!)
1 cup coconut water
To Make: Blend all ingredients on high in a blender until well blended. Drink and enjoy!
